Αν δεν μπορείτε να μείνετε, μπορείτε πάντα να το επισκεφθείτε. Γίνονται ξεναγήσεις, οι εσωτερικοί του χώροι είναι ανοιχτοί στο κοινό και αποτελούν must για κάθε λάτρη του σινεμά ή της ιστορίας.
Νοικιάστε ένα ποδήλατο και εξερευνήστε τον Silver Strand ή, αν έχετε χρόνο, κλείστε μια εμπειρία στο Spa & Wellness με θέα στον ωκεανό.
Η δική μου εμπειρία στο Sun Deck
Φτάσαμε νωρίς το απόγευμα, με τον ήλιο να καίει, η θερμοκρασία ξεπερνούσε τους 45 βαθμούς! Επιλέξαμε να καθίσουμε στο Sun Deck Bar, αγναντεύοντας τον ήλιο να βυθίζεται στον Ειρηνικό. Εκεί απόλαυσα μία από τις καλύτερες μαργαρίτες της ζωής μου.
Θυμάμαι να φέρνω στο μυαλό την ταινία Some Like It Hot, άλλωστε, αυτή ήταν η αφορμή της επίσκεψης. Με τη μαργαρίτα στο χέρι και την εκπληκτική θέα, φαντάστηκα τη Μέριλιν να τραγουδά λίγα μέτρα πιο πέρα.
Το προσωπικό ήταν φιλικό, οι γεύσεις εξαιρετικές και η ατμόσφαιρα... απλά μαγευτική.
Μπροστά μας απλωνόταν η Παραλία Coronado, μια από τις ομορφότερες των ΗΠΑ. Η λευκή της άμμος αστράφτει λόγω της μαρμαρυγίας, προσδίδοντάς της μια σχεδόν μεταλλική λάμψη.

Αν βρεθείτε στο Σαν Ντιέγκο, μην παραλείψετε να επισκεφθείτε το Hotel del Coronado. Δεν χρειάζεται να μείνετε για να το απολαύσετε, αρκεί μια βόλτα, ένας καφές ή ένα ποτό.
Το ίδιο το κτίριο είναι ένα αριστούργημα βικτωριανής αρχιτεκτονικής. Κάθε λεπτομέρεια, από τις σκάλες και τα παράθυρα μέχρι τα πόμολα, ψιθυρίζει ιστορίες από άλλη εποχή. Η νοσταλγική του πολυτέλεια δύσκολα συναντάται σήμερα, και γι’ αυτό ακριβώς αξίζει.

Where It Is
Hotel del Coronado is located on Coronado Island, just across from San Diego. You can get there by car via the spectacular Coronado Bridge or by ferry from San Diego’s harbor. The Coronado Bridge, which connects San Diego to the island, is a landmark in itself. Stretching nearly 3.4 kilometers with its elegant curve, it offers panoramic views of San Diego Bay and the city skyline.
If you're arriving by car, be prepared for an entrance that sets the tone perfectly for what follows. I still remember crossing that bridge and trying to capture the moment with my camera.
The Hotel – An Architectural Gem
Hotel del Coronado, also known as “The Del”, is more than just a hotel – it's a National Historic Landmark and one of the most iconic seaside resorts in the United States, built in 1888.
Its Victorian architecture, the massive white façade with its red roofs, and its beachfront setting make it irresistible. It has hosted everyone from presidents to Hollywood stars. Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon filmed the classic Some Like It Hot (1959) right here – a film that's essentially a love letter to this hotel.
Grace Kelly, Oprah Winfrey, and Walt Disney are just a few more of the famous personalities who stayed at The Del.
It’s rumored that the hotel is haunted, with the spirit of a woman who took her own life in room 3327 – a room I didn’t approach, or maybe just didn’t want to.
Rates & Accommodation
Room prices start at around $450+ per night for a classic room, while villas and luxury suites can go over $1,000 per night. I’m not sure it’s meant for mere mortals – but then again, this is America, where anything can happen. Still, it's a bit out of my price range for a stay.
Fortunately, there’s a resort fee ($35–50/day), which includes Wi-Fi, access to pools, beach towels, and more.
If staying overnight isn't an option, you can still visit. The hotel is open to the public, and guided tours are available – especially interesting if you’re a fan of film or history. Don’t miss the chance to walk through its interiors and soak in the cinematic atmosphere.
You can also rent a bike and ride along the Silver Strand, or if you have more time, book a session at the Spa & Wellness Center, which offers ocean views and top-tier services.
I highly recommend making a stop at the Sun Deck Bar. When we arrived, it was early afternoon with scorching heat – over 45°C (113°F) – so we sat down at the Sun Deck to escape the sun and watch it slowly dip into the Pacific. There, I enjoyed one of the best margaritas I’ve ever had.
I remember thinking about Some Like It Hot – the film was actually the reason I wanted to visit. With the margarita in hand and that stunning view, I could almost imagine Marilyn singing just a few steps away…
The staff was friendly, the food excellent, and the atmosphere... simply magical.
In front of us stretched Coronado Beach, one of the most beautiful in the U.S., with white sand that sparkles thanks to the presence of mica. It’s the most radiant beach I’ve ever seen – truly glowing.

Margaritas at the Sunset Bar: I had one of the best margaritas of my life here, with a view of the sun setting into the Pacific.

You don’t even need to stay there overnight to enjoy it. A simple walk, a coffee, or a drink is enough to experience that nostalgic sense of luxury – a kind that’s rare to find these days.
